HEALTH authority bosses are trying to trim spending by securing a motor tax and VRT exemption for paramedic vehicles.

Health chiefs seek tax exemptions for paramedic vehicles

It is understood that the HSE has written to the Revenue Commissioners asking that paramedic vehicles be treated as ambulances and thereby become exempt from Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT).

However, Revenue is understood to have misgivings over fears that it could pave the way for other medics, such as doctors, to avail of the same exemption.
