The agency will have far-reaching legal powers to compulsorily take possession of property and other assets such as shares with back-up legislation being provided to avoid obstruction or delays.

Finance Minister Brian Lenihan had promised robust and sturdy legislation to head-off any legal challenges and yesterday he appeared to deliver on those promises.
