Warning over lack of social workers

MORE than a sixth of children in care do not have an allocated social worker.

The stark figures from the Irish Association of Social Workers (IASW) have again highlighted the State’s failure in meeting legal obligations towards children in care, the IASW warned.

IASW spokesperson Declan Coogan said social workers on the ground in foster care situations were reporting that increasing numbers of children in care do not have a designated social worker.
