INTEL is to make a further 294 staff compulsorily redundant less than two months after it was ‘successful’ in seeking 300 voluntary redundancies from its workforce.

The company, which is one of Ireland’s biggest employers, told staff at a series of meetings at its Co Kildare base that there had been a reduction in demand for the products made in its Ireland Fab Operations facility.

“The employees and company will engage in a process of consultation over the next number of weeks to determine which employees will be specifically affected by this action,” a spokesman said. “The affected employees will be given the same severance package on offer in the voluntary programme earlier this year.”
