FOREIGN holidays are being put on the back-burner as the recession continues to affect how much is being spent on travelling abroad.

As people struggle to cope with the new economic reality, latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show spending on foreign holidays fell by almost 30% in the first quarter of this year.

A tightening of the belts is clearly reflected in the downward trend in overseas trips compared with the same period last year.
