THE Government faces a major battle with Garda associations following Bord Snip’s recommendations to axe Garda pay and allowances by at least €50 million a year and close half of the country’s stations.

The Garda Representative Association (GRA) said they were “outraged and dismayed” and said the report marked “the end of policing as we know it”.

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI) said closing garda stations was the “final death knell” to policing in many parts of the state.
