Taxation report next on the cards

COLM McCARTHY’S extensive report is only half of the promised revolution in the State’s ledgers ahead of December’s budget.

Soon after the public digests Mr McCarthy’s proposed spending cuts, the Commission on Taxation will produce its report on a reform of how money is collected. This is expected within weeks.

The Commission’s job is part of the long-term attempt to fill a €16 billion hole which was caused by our over-reliance on property sales and consumer habits to generate revenue.
