RTÉ offers €20k for career breaks

RTÉ staff are being offered a €20,000 lump-sum payment or 20% of their salary to take a two-year leave of absence in an attempt to save the broadcaster’s financial difficulties.

In recent days, management at the television and radio broadcaster sent all staff a memo asking them to consider the cost-cutting move as an alternative to potential job losses.

The offer, seen by the Irish Examiner, has been made to all researchers, reporters and presenters apart from high-profile individuals such as Pat Kenny who are on contracts with the broadcaster.
