Fás trainees to be offered alternatives as centre closes

STATE agency Fás yesterday pledged to ensure 49 trainees at a Southill training centre, due to close tomorrow, will be placed on alternative programmes.

Six staff members, meanwhile, are being offered redundancy packages.

A spokeswoman for Fás said: “In March 2009, an independent review into the operations at the centre found that it was not fulfilling the changed demands of its clients when viewed in the context of regeneration and the needs of young people in the area.”
