Taoiseach refuses to name date for treaty vote

VOTERS will have to wait at least another week before finding out when the second referendum on the Lisbon treaty will take place after the Taoiseach again refused to name a date.

Taoiseach refuses to name date for treaty vote

The news came as Germany’s constitutional court cleared the treaty, saying it does not create a federal European Union, though it wants domestic legislation changed to give their parliaments a greater say in EU decisions.

Legislation to allow the holding of a referendum will be published in the coming days and is expected to be brought to the Dáil next week. It follows consultation between the Government and opposition parties on the issue last weekend.
