Orders to meet Cowen over €128m deal

THE 18 religious orders involved in the discredited 2002 child abuse indemnity deal are to meet with the Taoiseach today to update him on their plans to make further contributions towards the support and compensation of survivors.

But sources have warned that few, if any, of the orders will be in a position to disclose the full extent of their wealth and asset portfolios at this early stage in the negotiations.

It is understood that the meeting will be used mainly to provide details of how the individual assessments of each order’s assets will take place and who will take responsibility for carrying out the probe in each case.
