Finlay claims society is failing children at risk

IRISH society continues to systematically fail children at risk of abuse and neglect, the head of Barnardos, Fergus Finlay, has said.

Mr Finlay said HSE reports published in yesterday’s Irish Examiner, which highlighted failings in the care system, made for “disturbing reading.”

He said the reports from inside the HSE made it apparent that not enough had been done to improve services during the years of economic growth, adding the recession could not be used as an excuse not to invest fully in vital services for children at risk.
