Music-lovers will be relishing this year’s Indiependence festival in Mitchelstown, which will feature more than 60 bands including The Blizzards, Fred, Director, Delorentos, and Mundy.
They will line up alongside international acts like Ocean Colour Scene and Super Furry Animals for a two-day festival that is sure to draw music buffs from all over Ireland.
The good news for fans is that a weekend ticket for the festival — which can be booked through Ticketmaster.ie — is a recession-busting €59.
For the event there will be late licenses in all Mitchelstown bars and a host of DJs.
Meanwhile, the Beast Of Ballyhoura will be a magnet for adrenaline junkies and thrill-seekers.
The endurance race will get underway in the village of Castletownroche and proceed through Cork, Tipperary and Limerick.
Teams of four will take turns in running, cycling, shooting, kayaking, abseiling and orienteering their way across the Galtee mountains.
Shane Dunne, who is organising both events, said they will be the biggest and best to date.
“Indiependence looks like being the best value entertainment in Ireland this summer,” said Mr Dunne.
He added that the Beast of Ballyhoura will now feature an inter-services challenge, with the army, gardaí, ambulance service, Civil Defence and PSNI going head-to-head to find Ireland’s toughest servicemen and women.
“This should prove to be a real spectacle,” he said.
The weekend also incorporates the Ballyhoura Blitz, a unique adventure race test for both the beginner and elite athlete with a short course event incorporating a 10km hill run followed by 25km of challenging mountain biking on the world-class Ballyhoura Trails.
Ballyhoura Fáilte will assist in the coordination of The Beast event and families are encouraged to make a weekend of it by booking in to the list of hotels, self-catering accommodation, B&Bs, hostels and campsites in the region.
