Campaign victory as rat-infested school gets €180k funding

“NOW I can go back to my real job of teaching instead of mopping floors and stuffing windows with newspaper.”

Those were the words of Elizabeth Mulvey, principal of Eglish National School in Ballinasloe, Co Galway, yesterday after the school received €180,000 in an emergency grant to upgrade the school.

The school made the headlines back in November after it was revealed that students were being taught in a crumbling, rat-infested building, that was more than a century old.
