Sun out for candidates but Lee casts long shadow

“HERE comes George!” – in his final days of canvassing for the Dublin South by-election, Labour’s Alex White can’t escape that political shadow hanging over him in recent weeks.

Basking in the sun outside the Nutgrove Shopping Centre, his campaign was looking bright as he handed out leaflets, pressed the flesh and got a positive response from voters who promised to remember him at the ballot box on Friday.

Then suddenly, out of nowhere, the George Lee-mobile pulls up in front of his nose and out hops the candidate who instantly steals the limelight and the attention of voters.
