LABOUR’S Euro hopeful Susan O’Keeffe has unveiled her proposals aimed at making towns, cities and public spaces safer for women.

Ms O’Keeffe, the journalist who exposed malpractice in the beef industry, said while statistics showed young men were most at risk of becoming a victim of crime in Irish towns and cities, they failed to measure a woman’s insecurity.

“Women are less at risk of crime precisely because they — especially older women — are fearful of going out alone, particularly after dark,” she said.
