Tank Field becomes a minefield for candidates

ELECTION candidates hoping to get seats in Cork City Council’s north-east ward may have to walk a tightrope on an issue that proves just how local politics really is.

Tank Field becomes a minefield for candidates

The Tank Field used by Brian Dillons GAA club in Mayfield has been the subject of division on the council for more than four years, since city officials began efforts to accommodate a local gaelscoil on part of the 11-acre site.

Gaelscoil Ghoirt Álainn has been housed in prefabs in the club’s car park for 11 years of its 16-year existence, but the 280 pupils had hoped when planning was granted in March 2008 that they would be ready to move into a 16-classroom school this autumn.
