Pubs pay up to €20k for TV sports

PUBLICANS are paying up to €20,000 every year for their sports TV coverage, despite more and more people choosing to drink at home.

With the trade under increasing pressure, more and more publicans are questioning the need to pay such a large amount for sports coverage.

Speaking to trade magazine Licensing World, Dublin publican and incoming chairman of the Licensed Vintners’ Association (LVA) Charlie Chawke questioned the need for such channels in the current economic climate.
