‘Greed and corruption to blame’

THE head of the Teachers’ Union of Ireland urged the public to “wake up” and realise that decades of corruption and greed have brought the country to its knees.

Addressing 400 delegates at the union’s annual conference, TUI president Don Ryan said this was an era of “vulture capitalism,” when an alliance of politicians, speculators, banks and other institutions were caught with their “hands up to their elbows in the nation’s wealth.”

In an angry and emotive speech, Mr Ryan accused the Government of turning on its own employees to sort out the economic crisis.
