BREWING giant Heineken has, for the first time, confirmed plans to sell off the site of Ireland’s oldest brewery after it is decommissioned.

The move will deal a major blow to heritage campaigners who are trying to convince the company to develop a micro-brewery-style tourist attraction at Cork’s historic Beamish and Crawford plant.

Heineken took over the plant last year and announced in December its intention to shut it down with the loss of 120 jobs.
