CORK’S business leaders will sign a new agreement with one of China’s biggest and most influential business groups this week, which could lead to a surge in trade between the two countries.

Cork Chamber will sign a formal memorandum of understanding with the Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce (SFIC) — also known as the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce — as part of a week-long Cork City Council-led visit to Shanghai.

Shanghai, which has a population of 200 million people, is the largest centre of commerce and finance in mainland China, and has been described as the “showpiece” of the world’s fastest-growing economy.
