Fears bypass plan will be scrapped

FEARS were voiced yesterday that the long-awaited €27 million bypass road for Castleisland in Kerry may become the victim of government cutbacks — again.

In January, Transport Minister Noel Dempsey announced the go-ahead for the 5.4km-long bypass, with work due to start this year.

However, it emerged yesterday at a Kerry County Council meeting in Tralee that the National Roads Authority (NRA) had not yet given the green light to the project.
