Food risks from chicken and lettuce

PEOPLE who regularly eat chicken and lettuce as well as takeaway food run a higher risk of contracting one of the most common types of food poisoning in Ireland.

The first major all-Ireland research into campylobacter infection has shown that several popular foods and eating habits are major sources of the illness.

The study, which was conducted by a research team including officials for the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the Northern Ireland Health and Social Services Board, also identified contact with sheep as a risk factor.
