IRISH Nationwide chairman Michael Walsh last night became the latest bank figure to resign.

The lender has been heavily involved in the massive banking scandal where former Anglo Irish bank chief Sean FitzPatrick was discovered to be hiding loans from shareholders by repeatedly transferring them to Irish Nationwide Building Society.

According to the bank's latest annual report Mr Walsh earned more than €100,000 in remuneration in 2007.
