Ryan: ESB and gas prices to tumble

THE hard-pressed energy consumer may be in for some fiscal relief with the news that Energy Minister Eamon Ryan expects a double-digit percentage reduction in electricity and gas prices this year.

Speaking in the Dáil, the minister said he has asked the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) to carry out an immediate review of options for a reduction in electricity and gas prices for both householders and business.

“Based on current trends, I expect a double-digit decrease in electricity and gas prices this year,” the minister said.
