Cancellations of surgery up 10%

CANCELLATIONS of operations in hospitals across the country increased by 10% last year, figures show.

The figures are contained in a Health Service Executive (HSE) reply to a Dáil question from Fine Gael health spokesman, Dr James Reilly.

It shows that 16,316 in-patient admissions were cancelled in 2008 and 14,903 the previous year.
