Cowen: Criminals will not walk free because of cuts

CRIMINALS will not “walk free” because of budget cuts in the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Taoiseach Brian Cowen has insisted.

The DPP James Hamilton must make savings of 3% in the payroll costs of his office by the end of the year.

He has indicated that if he is forced to make redundancies, criminals may not come before the courts.
