Two teens questioned over man’s death
Gardaí at Roxboro Road station in Limerick say they are treating the death of Mike Molloy, 39, of Garryglass Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston, as suspicious.
Two youths were arrested in the Ballinacurra Weston area and are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
Gardaí were called to Mr Molloy’s home on Friday night last at about 8pm. However, Mr Molloy, who had suffered injuries, refused to go to hospital.
At 2pm the following day he was found collapsed in a downstairs room and taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A postmortem by the state pathologist confirmed he had been assaulted.
Mr Molloy is survived by his partner, Geraldine, and three sons.
His funeral will take place today.
Door-to-door inquiries were carried out over the weekend and a full forensic examination at the scene has also been completed.
Meanwhile, in a separate matter, gardaí believe that arson attacks carried out on a number of vehicles owned by the Collopy and Treacy families in St Mary’s Park were not carried out as part of the ongoing feud in the city.
An effort was also made to burn down a fast food premises in St Mary’s Park.
The attacks were carried out over a week ago.
Gardaí say they have found no evidence to suggest that a gang made their way into St Mary’s Park and carried out the arson attacks.
One of the vehicles destroyed was a ’08-registered Range Rover worth in the region of €70,000.
It has also emerged, meanwhile, that a major Dublin criminal has moved to Limerick to join the McCarthy Dundon gang.
It is believed that the Dublin crime figure met up with McCarthy Dundon gang members in prison.
He lives in the Ballinacurra Weston area, the principal stronghold of the McCarthy Dundon gang.
Members of the McCarthy Dundon gang are the main suspects in the Shane Geoghegan murder investigation.
Garryowen rugby captain Mr Geoghegan, 28, was shot dead in the early hours of November 9 mistaken for a drugs importer linked to the Keane Collopy gang.
