TDs and senators braced for pay cuts of up to 10%

With the Government keen to secure a substantial reduction in the public sector pay bill, the TDs and senators believe they will be asked to set an example by taking a 5% to 10% pay cut.

TDs are paid €100,190 to €106,581, depending on length of experience. Senators are paid €70,133 to €74,607. In addition, politicians enjoy a generous expenses and allowance regime, and are paid extra sums if they serve as chairmen, vice-chairmen or convener of Oireachtas committees.
