We believed situation was in hand, says neighbour of abused children

A CLOSE neighbour of a Co Roscommon mother convicted of abusing and neglecting her six children has expressed serious concern over how the case was handled by the authorities.

A family man living near to the so-called “house of horrors” said he did not understand why the wider community was being blamed when so many question marks remained over the HSE handling of the case, and what seemed to be a lack of intervention on behalf of the school.

He said the community knew social workers were visiting the house and believed the best was being done for the children.
