Government set to unveil proposed €2bn cuts

THE Government is expected to present its proposals for up to €2 billion of extra cutbacks to the social partners tomorrow.

The cabinet met for seven hours yesterday to discuss the economic crisis and to attempt to reach agreement on where the cutbacks would be implemented.

The meeting will continue today but nothing firm will be announced until after the discussions with the social partners.
