THE social partners may start negotiations on the country’s financial recovery as early as tomorrow.

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions said although it had not received any invite from the Government, it was “possible and likely” the process to find €2bn in exchequer savings could begin before the weekend.

ICTU’s executive met yesterday to discuss its proposals to government for making significant savings without reducing public service pay. Unions have indicated that any attempt to cut members’ pay will be met with stiff opposition, including strike action.
