Ultravox to serve up slice of ’80s

THE 1980s electronic pop group Ultravox are reforming for a special reunion tour for the first time in more than 20 years, it was announced yesterday.

Ultravox to serve up slice of ’80s

The British band, featuring the original line-up of Midge Ure, Chris Cross, Warren Cann and Billy Currie, last performed together at Live Aid in 1985.

They will play the Olympia Theatre on May 2 and Belfast’s Waterfront Hall the following night, with tickets on sale this Friday.

Ure — singer, guitarist and keyboardist — said he was determined to bring the band to Ireland.

“I have lived and recorded in Dublin and so returning to Ireland will seem like a homecoming in more ways than one,” he said.

The band will perform material from all their albums, including Vienna, Rage in Eden and Quartet.

Ultravox were one of the top British electronic pop groups of the 1980s.

Ure said band members had been overwhelmed by fans’ response after recording a special acoustic session last year at the launch of a British radio station.

To coincide with the tour, a number of remastered albums and a greatest hits album will be released.
