Thomond rolls out the carpet to say ‘I do’
Couples are queuing up to tie the matrimonial knot at the home of Munster rugby.
Thomond Park manager, John Cantwell, confirmed yesterday that “considerable” queries were being received from couples seeking to book the stadium for their wedding celebrations.
He said: “In recent days two wedding bookings have been confirmed and there are at least five other couples in talks.
“We expect the wedding business to really expand.
“We have four major function areas, one of which can seat up to 500 guests, and our caterers Master Chefs, under Pat O’Sullivan, are regarded as among the best wedding caterers in the country, having done high- profile weddings, including that of Michael Flatley.”
A bonus for couples getting married in the Limerick registry office: Thom-ond Park is just a few hundred yards down the road.
Mr Cantwell also revealed many families were booking Thomond Park for Holy Communion and Confirmation Day celebrations.
He said: “We have special family packages and it is such a marvellous place to bring children for a Holy Communion or Confirmation celebration. The children can have a very exciting day out as, during their time in the stadium, they will have an opportunity to visit Munster rugby museum, the dressing rooms and other parts of the stadium where they would normally not have access to. Families who are into sport and rugby in particular will really savour what is on offer.”
The venue has lined up Elton John and Rod Stewart concerts this summer.
Mr Cantwell said many organisations were booking Thomond Park for corporate meetings and other events.
