FG refuses to back broader wage reductions

FINE Gael has refused to back broader pay cuts despite its proposals falling 95% short of the amount needed to address the budget deficit.

On Tuesday, party leader Enda Kenny said he would only support cuts to civil servants earning more than €100,000.

Last night, after a parliamentary party meeting, he said he did not know how many people would be affected and estimated it could result in savings of €100m.
