THE genteel sport of golf seems to be well above par when it comes to dangerous pastimes.

The risk of getting hit by a golf ball or struck by lighting on a golf course, or of developing bad back pain, have long been considered the primary hazards when out on the fairways.

However, doctors believe golfers face a new handicap because of their favourite sport — deafness.
