Man dies and wife remains in serious condition after blaze

The couple’s three grown-up children were out at the time and were alerted to the tragedy after receiving a phone call.

The blaze broke out sometime after 11pm at the house on Nurney Lawn in Donaghmede, north Co Dublin. The fire spread quickly throughout the house. Neighbours rang for the fire brigade. The man, named locally as Edward Lawlor, 50, was found by Dublin Fire Brigade in the kitchen, while his wife was located in the upstairs front bedroom. Gardaí, examining the source of the fire, suspect it was caused by a heat source in the kitchen.
