THE state admitted wrongdoing yesterday on the part of certain gardaí involved in the detention of schoolboy Brian Rossiter more than six years ago.

The admission came as part of a €200,000 settlement in the High Court with Brian’s parents, Pat and Siobhan, over a civil action they took against the Garda Commissioner, the Minister for Justice and the state for Brian’s wrongful death.

Brian died at Cork University Hospital on September 13, 2002, two days after he was found unconscious in a cell at Clonmel Garda Station, where he had been detained overnight.
