PUBLIC safety is being put at risk by the high numbers of gardaí who are allowed to drive without having completed a driving training course.

Garda Inspectorate said around a fifth of the force are driving garda vehicles on the authority of their chief superintendent.

“The inspectorate identified police officer driver training as a significant issue,” said the garda watchdog in a new report, Roads Policing Review.
