And the party’s Dublin MEP Gay Mitchell wasted no time getting the ball rolling by launching an attack on Taoiseach Brian Cowen’s handling of the last campaign.

In comments unlikely to aid harmony in the already fractured yes camp, he said voters had turned against the treaty in June due to a “lack of leadership” rather than the slick Libertas-led no push.
