Key issues affecting department efficiency

IN preparing the Transforming Public Services document, three government departments were examined in detail to see what kind of issues may be affecting efficiency.

Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food:

The department has 4,560 staff equating to 4,180 full-time jobs roughly half of whom are administrative civil servants and half professional and technical staff such as vets, scientists and agricultural advisers. It has a budget of €1.46 billion, over one-fifth of which goes on salaries.
