Tradespersons ‘should give compliance certificates’

THE national consumer watchdog has said tradespersons should be required to provide compliance certificates to homeowners following a report that found poor workmanship is costing almost €81 million per annum.

A survey commissioned by the National Consumer Agency also reveals that more than one in five respondents have experienced problems in relation to building work on their property.

The agency yesterday published 25 recommendations on how to improve consumer rights in relation to tradespeople after the study showed a substantial need for better consumer awareness and education on the issue.
