Five houses repossessed in a single town
None of the owners concerned appeared in Letterkenny Circuit Court for the applications, which included two holiday homes.
Judge John D O’Hagan put a stay on the orders for six months to allow for repayments to be made.
When the six-month period expires, the financial institutions can then apply for an execution order to repossess the homes.
According to a number of legal sources, the local court has received more than 20 “ejectment files” from solicitors acting on behalf of financial institutions so far this year.
According to a court spokesperson, there was only one repossession granted in Donegal last year.
Nationally, the number of house repossessions has more than doubled in the first six months of the year.
