GARDAÍ yesterday prevented a small group of student protesters trying to barge their way into the Irish Chamber Orchestra building as it was being officially opened at the University of Limerick campus yesterday.

After banging at the glass front, one group tried to push through the door and were held back by Garda reinforcements.

Earlier, Arts and Sports Minister Martin Cullen had to abandon his State car when up to 400 students, protesting against fees, blocked him crossing a bridge at the UL campus.
