Guilty plea to possession of child porn images
David Ivers, 53, of Rathcoursey, Midleton, Co Cork, was arraigned on the opening day of the sessions of Cork Circuit Criminal Court.
He pleaded guilty to the single count on the indictment against him.
His barrister Donal O’Sullivan told Judge Patrick J Moran that Ivers was attending a counsellor and was also attending the Grenada Institute in Dublin for treatment in relation to his problems.
“The application will be to adjourn to the second next term for sentencing,” said Mr O’Sullivan.
Reports are to be prepared in relation to the counselling that Ivers is attending.
Mr O’Sullivan said there was no application for free legal aid in the matter.
Judge Moran adjourned the case until April 24, 2009. “I will remand him on the same conditions of bail as heretofore,” the judge said.
The charge to which Ivers pleaded guilty was one of knowingly possessing child pornography contrary Section 6 (1) of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act of 1998.
The particulars of the charged stated that on September 10, 2007, in Cork the accused had knowingly in his possession photographic images of naked children.
The facts surrounding the case and how Ivers came to be charged will be outlined when the defendant is before the court for sentencing in April.
