Tax exile Bono looks for mansion revamp

TAX exile Bono has property development plans beyond the Clarence Hotel in the Dublin city centre — his latest blueprint focuses on the master bedroom of his Killiney pile.

Tax exile Bono looks for mansion revamp

According to the plans submitted for approval to the Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council, Bono and his wife, Ali Hewson, want to add a floor to their mansion, which, at 130sq m, is ample room to swing a basketful of cats.

Not having to pay the taxman has its obvious advantages — no sooner does one member of the band submit a planning application than another follows suit. The Edge, Larry and Adam, and Bono himself, have all been involved in many — and costly — home re-designing projects over the years.

None of the band members seems to have yet found what he’s looking for in relation to their respective multimillionaire cribs.

And as well as the proposed sprawling bedroom, featuring all sorts of luxuries that only a tax exile could afford, the Hewsons also intend to construct an equally sprawling ground floor conservatory that, like the master bedroom, takes full advantage of the undisturbed views over Dublin Bay.

The bedroom will connect to a top-storey terrace around the house.
