IRELAND will miss key targets in tackling mounting waste, carbon dioxide emissions and water quality, according to the state’s environment watchdog.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has conceded that with a growing population, more waste and more emissions from agriculture and transport, the country looks set to breach EU targets.

Agency director general Mary Kelly said progress was too slow in meeting targets.
