DOZENS of schools whose building projects the Government promised would be under way at least six months ago have been excluded from the latest announcement of school building works being allowed to proceed.

In November 2006, six months before the last general election, then education minister Mary Hanafin announced that buildings or extensions for 54 primary schools were being sanctioned for tender and construction work would begin by February 2008.

But only 20 schools have since been given clearance for work to start.
