THE Revenue office, responsible for chasing down tax cheats, failed to pay tax itself on expenses paid to staff.

A report published by the Comptroller and Auditor General, John Buckley, showed that the office of the Revenue Commissioner made a voluntary disclosure of almost €1.7 million in November last year.

It followed a report which found that Revenue as an employer failed to pay benefit in kind tax for expenses claimed by employees between January 2004 and June 2007.
