Drive to improve CCTV

MANY CCTV videos are inadmissible in court because of poor quality images and bad installation, the official standards body said yesterday.

The National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI) said it hoped that its new certification programme would address this.

NSAI chief executive Maurice Buckley said the programmes launched today will help alleviate this problem “by introducing CCTV installers to a certification process which requires assessment against best practices”.

He said the NSAI developed and adopted standards and associated certification programmes directed at the security industry.

“The certification programme and standards will have an impact on public safety by continuing to raise the bar in the security industry in Ireland and give the public the confidence they need.”
